Invercargill, Te Anau and Milford Sound

So many things to see and so little time to see it all!

We are in Te Anau- a quaint little town on a lake in Fjordland.  The scenery here is breathtaking and immense- huge mountains that are almost a straight vertical slope.  There is as much rock below the water as there is above the water.  Being B.C. people we are even impressed!

The trip here from Dunedin was long and the kids did great.  We drove along the southern scenic route all the way to Te Anau- which meant a longer drive and more stops!  (it was 10 hours of travel)  The ocean side along the south coast was green and lush.  We are amazed at how often the terrain changes as we drive and all the SHEEP!  So many SHEEP!  We stopped in Bluff- the south most town in NZ.   Keith managed to find the steepest hike to get to the lookout point- it was good to get the exercise and wear Luke out!    It also conveniently stopped raining long enough for us to complete the hike- imagine that!

Today we went on the Milford Sound cruise.  The sound is actually a fjord- we all know the difference now!  The waterfalls and views were spectacular- even in the mist and clouds.  We did see a couple penguins in the water- but they were shy and did not stay around for long!  It is worthwhile to look up Milford sound online and look at pictures- but as always no photo does it justice!

Tomorrow we are on the road again.  The kids are getting really good at packing up suitcases and cleaning out the buzz wagon.  One could only hope these skills of efficiency will last when we get home!

You really are doing things right! Enjoy the last stretch. Sorry to say, but the kids are not going to keep their ability to pack.... they loose it in their teenage years! Give each other a big bear hug from the le Rouxs.
